However, you should check the chain that attaches the flapper to the handle as sometimes the problem fixable with adjusting or replacing the chain. If the flush handle is loose, this is remedy calls for the tightening up the bolt that holds it in place. Then again, if it is a problem of water entering the overflow valve, you can gently bend the float rod, up or down according to your needs to repair that problem. If you own a newer model of toilet, you will need to reposition the adjusting nut. If you feel that you want to reduce the water level, simply bend the flush rod down so the float falls lower in the tank, you can also place a clean brick or stone into the tank to displace the volume of water.
If your toilet will not flush at all, you will need to check the inside assembly to make sure that all of its parts are connected and working properly, if you find that something needs adjustment or replacing, you should do so as soon as possible. When your toilet is leaking, you can easily find the area that needs repair by adding just a small drop of food coloring to tank water. Where you find the discoloration in the leaking area, will give you clues on what needs a toilet drain repair completed.
