Simple Bathroom Faucet Repair
Over time, most bathrooms will require a simple bathroom faucet repair. On the other hand, perhaps you are making an effort of remodeling your bathroom. Keep in mind however, when it comes to leaky faucets that more often than not, a leak will appear on the hot side of a faucet, since the heat will eventually damage the washer of a hot water faucet, faster than cold water will.
To do a simple bathroom faucet repair, you will need these tools and materials. You will need a new assembly for your faucet, adjustable wrenches and a basin wrench. You will also need a pair of slip-joint pliers, a scoring pad and some duct tape to wrap the ends of your wrenches to avoid scratching the faucet surface. To keep from dropping your items down the drain, you should make sure to close the drain before you begin. When you remove the faucet, you will need to remember how you remove them, so you can lay them out as you remove them, to help you replace them in the proper working order, for the best results.
You will begin by turning off the water supply to the sink; you will find the shut off valves beneath the sink. After you turn off the water supply, open the faucet to release any additional water. You will need to disconnect the cold and hot water supply that runs to the shutoff valves, using a small adjustable wrench. You should find the coupling nuts behind the faucet that connect the faucet and water supply tubing. You will also need to locate the mounting nuts for the faucet placement and remove them.
You will need to remove the handle screw cover and take out the handle screw. Using your pliers or handle puller, remove the handle and any other inclusion from the faucet, if there is any. Then loosen the holding ring or nut. Take out the stem or cartridge, depending on your faucet set up. If you have washer-less faucets, remove their rubber seats. If the chrome or brass seats need replacing, then do so. Check to see if the cartridge or washers need replacing and do so if needed. You might also need to replace the faucet stem if it is leaking. Once you have replaced and finished the bathroom faucet repair, you will need to put everything back together in the same fashion in which you have removed them. This is the reason for placing your faucet pieces in a row as you remove them from your sink or bathtub.
Once you have finished with the bathroom faucet repair, turn on the water supply to the faucets and check for any leaks. If you find none, you have done a great job, however, if you do find leaks, immediately turn off the water supply to the faucets and look for the new leak. Keep in mind that sometimes it is best just to replace the whole faucet assembly, rather than just a washer or stem, depending on the age and condition of your bathroom faucet.
